Breast development: Getting boobs

Ok, so one of the first signs you’re going through puberty is getting boobs. Some girls start to get ‘breast buds’ (bumps around or under the nipple) at 11, but that’s average. If you’re a few years younger or older, that’s totally normal too.
 Growing bigger?
The next stage in breast development is that your whole boob starts getting bigger. Here’s what happens...
 • Your nipple and areola (the area around the nipple) will get darker and form a separate, small mound.
 • Some girls develop more quickly than others during puberty, and it’s not unusual for one breast to grow faster than the other. The whole process from ‘flat’ to ‘finish’ takes about 2 to 3 years.
 • Sometimes it can take a while for things to even out. But even adult women can have one breast that’s bigger than the other. So not to worry.
 Everyone’s different
Remember that every girl’s boobs are different. The important thing is how you feel about your boobs, whatever their shape or size. You’ve got to live with them so you may as well learn to love them!
